The 345.87 ha of Lagoas de Bertiandos e São Pedro de Arcos Protected Landscape are home to a complex of permanent and temporary freshwater lakes. On a land depression crossed by Estorãos river (a subsidiary of Lima River) and once occupied by natural pastures and rice fields, S. Pedro and Mimoso lagoons and the final section of Estorãos River are bordered by riparian galleries. Surrounded by wet natural pastures divided by hedges, spots of broadleaf woods and pine woods on the nearby hills, the agricultural practice still subsists on the flood plain and on neighbouring areas, there are vines on field borders and scattered olive groves.
